Track special McLaren 600LT Spider uncovered
ABU DHABI: McLaren has finally shown the convertible version of the popular 600LT Coupe, the new 600LT Spider which is the fifth member to have McLaren’s Longtail name. The convertible Spider comes with similar characteristics and power like the coupe. So, if you are a fan of the fixed-roof Longtail you’d only be treated with more fun.
The McLaren 600LT Spider with a three-piece retractable roof is about 110.2 pounds heavier than its coupe counterpart. Despite the retractable roof, the new 600LT Spider is lighter than the 570S Spider by 220 pounds.
According to McLaren, the new retractable hardtop is more durable and secure than an orthodox soft top. The roof can be retracted at speeds of up to 40 kmph (25 mph). A wind deflector, responsible for lowering down air buffeting can also be deployed by an electric switch inside the car. What this means is that the exhaust pipes positioned on the rear top can still continue to roar.
Based on the 570S Spider, the new 600LT houses a V8 3.8-litre turbo which churns out a maximum power of 600.2 PS (up by 30.4 PS over 570S’s output) and a peak torque of 620 Nm (up by 19 Nm over 570S’s output). The engine is coupled with a 7-speed DCT unit. The McLaren 600LT Spider comes with the ability to touch 100 kmph mark in just 2.9 seconds. Top speed rated for the 600LT with the roof is 323 kmph while it’s 315 kmph when the roof is folded down.
On the inside, the improvements include the use of Alcantara suede and carbon fibre racing seats. If you wish to experience a lightweight Spider then McLaren can remove the climate control and audio system as well. Additionally, you get an option to shed off some more weight off the 600LT by opting for Senna seats instead of the racing ones. As for pricing, the new 600LT Spider will cost you £201,500 (AED 954,415).
