Toyota files trademarks for 86 GR and Yaris in Europe
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota has registered the GRMN and GR Sport models as “GR Yaris” and “86 GR” in the Swiss trademark office. However, the organization is yet to grant the confirmation. It indicates that the automaker is preparing itself up for the launch of these vehicles in Europe.
The Yaris GR is a five-door hybrid car that features a combination of a 1.5-litre VVT-i engine and an electric motor. The engine can make up to 74 PS of power along with a torque of 111 Nm, while the motor is capable of thrusting out a maximum of 61 PS power and 169 Nm of peak torque. The combination of these two provides a total of 100 PS of power. The GR version is expected to get the same engine.
The 86 GR will feature 2.0-litre flat-four engine, which provides a maximum of 205 PS of power. The power is sent down to the wheels by a six-speed manual gearbox, while a six-speed automatic transmission will also be offered as an option.
In Japan, the Yaris GR which is badged as the Vitz is riding on 17-inch alloy wheels covered by the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres. The vehicle also features a steering wheel with smaller-diameter. Moreover, the CVT models get the 10-speed transmission mode. The vehicle took its name from the Gazoo Racing, which is Toyota’s racing division.
As for the 86 GR, it comes with 17-inch Rays alloy wheels and features Recaro seats. Coming to the braking, the vehicle gets Brembo brakes that have six-piston callipers at the front, while four-piston callipers are offered at the rear.
Toyota revealed the GR HV concept at the Tokyo motor show which was organised last year. At the event, the manufacturer also dropped a hint that the next GT86 could share its look with a Gazoo Racing influence. Also, the concept car featured the GR badge, which reads ‘Gazoo GR Super Sport’.
