Think of compact sedans, and the Toyota Corolla will be among the first few cars that will cross your mind. Although the Toyota Corolla initially began its journey as a sub-compact sedan, it was the year 1991 when the Japanese automaker decided to overhaul its ever so popular car and provide it with bigger than before dimensions. LED lighting all-around

In simplest of the words, the 2020 Toyota Corolla looks a lot more mature and sophisticated than its earlier generations. And, the major contributors to this are the slim & stylish LED headlamps which are conjoined by a chrome trim. While not all the models of the all-new Toyota Corolla come with LED lighting, the top end variants, along with the hybrid model, get LED headlamps with auto levelling function. Moving on to the rear end, we find the sedan sporting rear LED combination lamps in conjunction with the rear fog lamps. Potent powertrains

The first of the three is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder in-line 16V DOHC 1ZR-FE petrol motor that produces 121 hp of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 154 Nm. The other petrol motor is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder in-line 16V DOHC M20A-FKS mill that is capable of churning out 160 hp and 200 Nm.

Finally, the hybrid model comprises of a 1.8-litre four-cylinder in-line 16V DOHC DUAL VVT-i 2ZR-FXE engine and an electric motor. The internal combustion engine generates 96.5 hp and 142 Nm, whereas the electric motor produces 71 hp and 163 Nm. While the 1.8-litre petrol and the hybrid models get a CVT, the 2.0-litre petrol, on the other hand, sports a direct shift CVT. The claimed mileage figures for the different models range from 17.7 to 27.6 kmpl.

High safety quotient

Toyota and safety are two words that go hand in hand. And, the 2020 Corolla for the UAE is no exception. The Japanese sedan comes with a host of safety features and is a very safe car for people both inside and outside of it. The safety equipment on the 12th-generation Corolla in the UAE includes dual front & side SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution, vehicle stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, cruise control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, engine immobiliser, and rear parking sensors with a reverse camera.
