Supacat unveils new six-wheel MUV: A HiLux-based military vehicle

ABU DHABI: Supacat has launched the Medium Utility Vehicle Hi-Load, a new military vehicle based on the Toyota Hilux. It has been manufactured in Sydney and will cater to the needs of defence forces looking for a more pocket-friendly military solution.

The MUV is built on the HiLux dual-cab platform but has undergone extensive modifications to boost its off-road capabilities and utility. The chassis has been extended to accommodate a six-wheel drive system, enhancing its performance in rugged terrain. With a gross vehicle mass of 6.5 tonnes, the MUV can carry a payload of up to 3,000 kg. Additionally, it is equipped with a remotely operated weapon station that allows military equipment, including a machine gun, to be fired from within the cabin.

The MUV’s main selling point is its affordability. It has utilised many off-the-shelf components to simplify maintenance and lower costs. It retains the 2.8-litre turbodiesel inline-four engine along with engine upgrades for those looking for additional power.

The MUV builds on the legacy of Supacat by merging high payload capacity and mobility with versatile modularity. It has been created to appeal to regional forces who are on the lookout to enhance their capabilities and leverage infrastructure and local resources for support.
