Smart Mobility International (SMI), based in Abu Dhabi, is making a bold move to reshape electric mobility in the UAE. The company will launch Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs) later this year, starting with the new Avatr 07. This initiative aims to address the key limitations of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) while aligning with the UAE’s sustainability goals.

A Smarter EV Strategy for the UAE

SMI’s decision to expand into REEVs stems from its focus on delivering practical electric mobility. As the exclusive UAE distributor for Chinese brands Avatr and Neta, the company has already introduced fully electric Avatr 11 and 12 models. With the upcoming launch of the Avatr 07 REEV, SMI enters a new chapter of innovation tailored to regional needs.

The Avatr 07 uses Kunlun range-extending technology, which combines a fully electric drivetrain with a petrol-powered generator. This system charges the battery on the move, allowing drivers to go farther without needing a charging station. For UAE drivers covering long distances or driving in areas with limited charging access, this model brings freedom and flexibility.

Moutaz Louis, CEO of SMI, summed up the vision clearly: “REEVs offer drivers freedom from range anxiety, from relying on charging points, and from choosing between sustainability and convenience.”

Why REEVs Make Sense for the UAE:

    • Flexible range: Combines electric power with a petrol engine to recharge batteries while driving.
    • Long-trip ready: Ideal for road trips, desert drives, and inter-emirate commutes.
    • No charging stress: Works well in areas where charging stations are not yet available.
    • Smooth transition: Helps hesitant drivers shift to electric mobility without sacrificing range.

    Driving Toward a Cleaner Future

SMI’s REEV push supports the UAE’s long-term green transportation vision. The country plans to have 50% of all vehicles be electric by 2050. While BEVs are a key part of this plan, REEVs can fill gaps in infrastructure and meet the needs of a wider range of users.

Louis noted, “We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to electrification. The UAE has diverse lifestyles, from urban professionals to adventure enthusiasts.” This customer-focused strategy is central to SMI’s product planning and aligns closely with national policy.

As SMI rolls out REEVs, it sets the stage for broader adoption of advanced electric technologies across the Emirates. With a focus on practical innovation, the company is helping pave the road for a greener, more versatile mobility future.

China’s EV Push Finds a Home in the UAE

With access to Western markets becoming harder for Chinese automakers, companies like Avatr and Neta are turning to the UAE as a key growth hub. Their advanced EV and REEV models, once aimed at Europe and the U.S., are now being fine-tuned for the Middle East.

For Smart Mobility International, this shift represents both a challenge and a huge opportunity. As the UAE looks to lead the region in clean transport, SMI is stepping up with solutions built not just for the future—but for the realities of today’s roads.
