Salik tags placement warnings announced by RTA in Dubai
A new warning for all motorists in Dubai has been announced by the Roads and Transport Authority yesterday. The warning mentions that all motorists are required to put their Salik tags at appropriate locations on their vehicles, and the violation will lead to paying a heavy fine.
Salik is an automatic road toll collection system, which was launched in 2007 in the country. A motorist needs to register the vehicle on the Salik account and to purchase a Salik tag. If the motorist is driving under a Salik gate with a Salik tag attached to the vehicle, the toll of AED 4 will be automatically deducted from the motorist’s registered account.
The RTA further explains that the message regarding the warning has been sent to all the customers mentioning that the tag must be placed on the windshield of the vehicle. The ideal position of placing the tag is considered as just below the rear-view mirror on the windshield. In case of a bike, the tag can be stuck to the windshield of the bike.
Salik fines are listed as:
- First violation- AED 100
- Second violation- AED 200
- Third violation- AED 400 and so on.
Currently, there is a total of seven Salik gates operating around Dubai which includes Al Barsha, Al Safa, Maktoum Bridge, Jebel Ali, Garhoud Bridge, Airport Tunnel, Al Mamzar North and Al Mamzar South.
Further instructions include:
- If a motorist finds that after passing the Salik gate without the tag and no action has been taken, then take it as a ten-day grace period to either buy a tag or recharge one’s account.
- Also if your tag is placed on the wrong location, or you try to peel it off, it may damage the tag and you will have to buy a new one in that case.
