Noisy Vehicles to be fined in Abu Dhabi
A warning notice for motorists revving up the engines of their cars has been released by Abu Dhabi Police. The motorists shall incur a fine along with black points for creating disturbance in residential regions. To minimize noise pollution, maintain decorum on roads and avoid distractions, Abu Dhabi Police has come up with the plan to catch motorists with revved up engines.
To identify and catch motorists exceeding 95 decibels, which is the limit set by the police, numerous radars have been installed in different parts of Abu Dhabi. For your reference, 55 decibels is the noise limit for construction sites and an electrical transformer, whereas 44 decibels are considered to be bird calls.
Once the radars identify vehicles exceeding the set noise limit of 95 decibels and capture their audio and video, a fine of AED 2,000 will be sent to the violators. Not only this, violators will get 12 black points and the cars will be seized for up to six months as per Article 20 of Federal Law.
Lt. Col. Khalifa Al Khaili, the director of the Traffic Control Department said that the vehicles producing high decibels are not good for the environment as they cause noise pollution. Not just this, they also distract other drivers on the road which may result in accidents.
Additionally, he urged drivers to drive responsibly, avoid excessive honking around hospitals and schools and asked young motorists to keep a check on their speeds and noise levels. He added that distractors will also be liable to pay fines and get black points.
To avoid paying fines, we’d ask you to drive carefully, blow fewer horns and do not exceed 95 decibels. Drive safe, be safe.
