New Renault 4 EV: A tribute to the 4L with a modern twist

ABU DHABI: The 4 E-Tech, Renault’s latest offering, is a tribute to its golden era when the iconic 4L reigned. The new Renault 4 was introduced at the 2024 Paris Motor Show and it reimagines its legendary predecessor. 

This model beautifully blends cutting-edge technology with classic design elements, creating a vehicle that appeals to both tech-savvy drivers and vintage enthusiasts. The 4 E-Tech captures the original’s essence while incorporating features that enhance efficiency and performance.

The Renault 4 E-Tech will remind you of the original 4L with its vertical grille, horizontal bonnet, and spherical headlights. It also offers many modern features such as illuminated accents and a polycarbonate grille. Its increased dimensions—81mm taller and 220mm longer—enhance its rugged appeal. The canvas roof can be operated via Renault’s virtual assistant ‘Reno,’ which adds a quirky touch.

Inside, the Renault 4 offers outstanding functionality and customization, with a Techno variant that features a jeans-themed interior that seems to be inspired by the original 4's adaptability. It comes with a dual-screen setup—a 10-inch multimedia screen and a 7-inch digital display—featuring ChatGPT integration and Google services for over 200 queries. 

Adjustable interior layout for added cargo versatility and legroom and 420-liter modular boot make the Renault 4 a practical vehicle. As per Renault, it has 670 combinations of trims, stitching, and colours making this customization level surprising for a Renault.

The Renault 4 comes with Level 2 ADAS and up to 26 driver aids, offering modern safety that aligns with its classic appeal. Its rugged design and high-strength chassis make it well-suited for both adventurous and urban driving.

The 4 E-Tech is based on the AmpR platform that is also found in the Renault 5. It offers two battery choices: a 52 kWh unit with a 250-mile range and 150 bhp, or a 40 kWh battery with 186 miles of range and 120 bhp. 

Both configurations come with V2L/V2G charging capabilities for versatility during road trips and city driving. It weighs 1,410 kg and takes 8.5 seconds to accelerate from 0-62 mph with the larger motor.

We do not have any details about the launch of the Renault 4 in the UAE. However, considering the growing interest of the region in innovative designs and electric vehicles, we are hopeful for its introduction.
