New Nissan pickup truck images leaked; Navara replacement?

ABU DHABI: A new Nissan pickup truck is around the corner as evident in the leaked images that have surfaced online. The images showcase a boxy design and super-sized dimensions. 

As seen in the images, the Nissan Yuanye Z9 is anticipated to be sold in China exclusively, where it will succeed the 'D23' Navara, which has been there since 2017. This new model will strengthen the presence of Nissan in the competitive pickup segment.

At 5,520 mm long, the new Chinese ute fits between the US-market Frontier (5,692 mm) and the current dual-cab Navara (5,260 mm). With around 3,130 mm wheelbase, it surpasses the dual-cab Mitsubishi Triton (5,320 mm). It is anticipated that the next Navara will be based on the Triton that was introduced earlier this year. However, the information regarding the platform that these Chinese ute will use is unclear.

The Yuanye Z9 will be available in different powertrain options, including a 2.0-litre petrol engine that is offered in two variants: one producing 190 kW and the other 182 kW. Additionally, it will also be available with a 3.0-litre diesel engine that generates around 140 kW. It is also anticipated that a plug-in hybrid option may also be offered, positioning the ute to compete with the Ford Ranger PHEV and the BYD Shark.

The Nissan Navara is available in the Chinese market through the Zhengzhou Nissan division.  Its joint-venture partner, Dongfeng, offers rebadged versions along with an electric power option.

In the UAE, Nissan's current lineup includes Sunny, Altima, all-new Patrol, Kicks, X-Trail, X-Terra, Pathfinder, Patrol Safari,  Z, and Urvan. We do not have any details about the launch of the new ute in the UAE.
