New 3D zebra crossing creates an optical illusion in Dubai
ABU DHABI: An innovative approach has been taken by the Dubai police to enhance road safety on the emirate’s roads in the country. Ras Al Khaimah Police established a 3D walkway on Mohammad Bin Salim Road on Thursday to prevent insensible and reckless drivers from speeding and to make sure the pedestrians are safe in the area. The action was inaugurated by Brigadier Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, who is the director of the patrols and traffic department of Ras Al Khaimah Police. He stated that the goal of the project is to decrease rash driving and accidents on the public road significantly.
Brig Al Nabqbi said “This vital road [Mohammad Bin Salim> is especially busy with pedestrians during the evening time, and coupled with low visibility, puts the lives of people at risk. But with the smart walkways, which has been implemented at a low cost around the world, we aim to improve road safety for pedestrians.”
Approximately 18% of road-related misfortunes are caused by rash-drivers bumping into pedestrians, according to Road Safety UAE. To avoid that, the 3D zebra crossing works as an optical illusion by producing the glimpse of a walkway that comes out at drivers.
If you approach a zebra crossing, you must decrease your speed and take a halt before the zebra crossing to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. Also, if you see traffic behind you, then you must turn on the hazard light as a warning before coming to a stop. You should always obey the zebra crossing and try to drive sensibly and cautiously while driving near the crossing because once you get out of your car, you are also a pedestrian.
