McLaren 600LT gets the power to match a Bugatti Veyron courtesy of Hennessey
ABU DHABI: Brute horsepower is not something that comes to mind with we think of McLaren. They are precision machines meticulously crafted that transform science into speed. They have only one goal in mind, and that is to help drivers go fast.
Even though the stock 600LT is devilishly quick, it does not stop performance tuners like Hennessey from tinkering with it to produce more power and speed. Hennessey has christened the HPE1000 trim. After all the modifications, the 600LT produces 1000 PS which is in the league of the legendary Bugatti Veyron. The torque figure from the 3.8-litre twin turbo motor is now at 1173 Nm. Significant changes to the turbo system were made to achieve this power gain. Hennessey went about fitting revised turbos, a high-flow wastegate, new exhaust hardware, an upgraded intercooler, high-flow air filters, and a Motec engine management system to control all the new hardware. To ensure that all this power is handled appropriately, changes to the seven-speed gearbox were also made.
So, how does this translate to real-world numbers? Well, Hennessey has claimed a 0-96 kmph time of 2.1 seconds. This is a massive 0.7 seconds quicker than the stock 600LT. A quarter mile drag time of 9.6 seconds can also be accomplished. Pricing for this particular trim is yet to be announced by Hennessey.
