Limited edition Shelby Series 2 revealed
ABU DHABI: Shelby has taken the covers off the limited edition of Series 2. Like its predecessor, it is attractive in the first place. The Shelby Series 2 is sleeker, faster, and stronger than the Series 1. It sports an all-aluminum body, a powerful V8 engine under the hood and a retuned suspension and braking setup.
To make the Series 2 see the light of day, Shelby American joined hands with Wingard Motorsports and result is absolutely fascinating. The classic sports car comes with two V8 engine choices, including the 7.0-litre Shelby’s 427cc engine and the Ford’s 427cc Windsor. Exact power outputs of the same were kept in disguise. However, the company revealed that both the engines are capable of producing a max power of more than 800PS, mated to a 5-speed ZF gearbox.
Gary Patterson, the president of Shelby American said “Several years ago, Wingard Motorsports purchased the remaining Shelby Series 1 chassis and parts. Working with Shelby, founder Bob Wingard revised the car to reduce weight by maximizing the integration of billeted aluminum and carbon fiber components. He further refined the suspension, braking, and drivetrain to allow an increase of more than twice the horsepower of the original car. The Series 2 is now more than 12% lighter and will support over 800 horsepower,”
Expect the same level of handling as in case of the Series 1 due to the same aluminum honeycomb platform. The cantilever suspension design at the front and rear is same like on the predecessor. The Penske Shocks from Charlotte, North Carolina does its part in tuning the suspension and holding the road better.
“While the Shelby Series 2 is based on the first-generation car, it’s a significant leap forward. It blends old-school craftsmanship and current technology, pushing the roadster into supercar territory. It is the perfect car for collectors and enthusiasts globally who want the ultimate in exclusivity and to be completely engaged with the driving experience,” Patterson added.
For braking, it gets six-piston brake calipers on all the four wheels. The 19-inch alloy wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres. Other standards on the Series 2 include multi-point seat belts, four/six point roll bars, and carbon fiber seats.
The Series 2 is a limited edition and there will be only four units on sale with a one-year warranty for parts, paint finishes and labor. Each Series 2 will feature a Shelby American CSX5500 serial number recorded in the official Shelby American Registry.
