Kalashnikov unveils electric car to rival Tesla
ABU DHABI: From the maker of the AK47 assault rifle, Kalashnikov, now comes an electric car. The Russian gun maker giant has just revealed its CV-1, a retro-styled electric car. This vehicle, as the company claims, is going to have more than enough performance to beat Tesla.
The Army 2018 International Military Technical Forum in Kubinka, Russia was the stage for the prototype CV-1’s launch. The retro style car is built around the 1970s Izh 2125 Combi. The Kalashnikov made car uses modular batteries and has a total capacity of 90 kWh. The company claims that the batteries are powered through a “revolutionary inverter” that measures 50x50x100cm and can make the car cover a whopping total of 354 kilometres.
A Kalashnikov spokesperson said, “This technology will let us stand in the ranks of global electric car products such as Tesla and be their competitors.”, as was revealed by the RIA-Novosti news agency's press office.
CV-1's motor could output 300 hp and is cited to go from 0-100 kmph time of around six seconds according to the company. However, no detailed specifications are out yet.
Best known for its guns, Kalashnikov also produces a range of military and civilian weapon. They also produce other things among which are several bikes and off-road vehicles. Also, the firm has recently unveiled Igorek- its four-metre-tall, 4.5-tonne manned robot.
