Infiniti ceases Q50 sedan production

ABU DHABI: Sedans are currently on hold at Infiniti. The Infiniti Q50 sedan will not continue into the 2025 model year, marking the end of its decade-long run at the close of this year. This follows the departure of its coupe counterpart, which was discontinued in 2022.

It seems that Infiniti is following the industry trend of moving away from coupes and sedans in favour of SUVs and crossovers due to the increase in consumer demand for these vehicles. The Q50’s production ended because of its declining sales performance. It was projected that the sedan would sell only 10% of its 2016 volume. In June of this year, Infiniti sold just 2,839 Q50s in the US, marking an 11% decrease compared to the same period in 2023.

When launched, the Q50 came with advanced amenities like a 16-speaker Bose sound system, adaptive headlights, ambient lighting, and quilted leather seats. It also offered adaptive suspension, keyless entry, smartphone connectivity, and various safety features including automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning.

With no direct successor planned for the Q50, SUVs and crossovers are set to dominate Infiniti’s lineup. The brand recently introduced the new generation of its flagship QX80 SUV and continues to offer models like the QX60, QX50, and QX55. However, there are still chances for an electric sedan in the lineup of Infiniti. Last year, the company revealed its all-electric Qe concept, which could address the gap that was left by the departing Q50. The Vision Qe Concept could also serve as an electric successor to the Q70 sedan, with its launch expected by 2026.
