Ford Territory meant for emerging markets around the world
ABU DHABI: The Sao Paulo auto show is just a few days away and the preparations have already kicked in. Ford has planned to send its new car, the new Territory to the Brazilian journalists for a preview. This is to ascertain the demand and the feedback that the car gets in different automobile markets. The result would help the company decide whether adding the car in a specific country’s would be profitable or not.
The new Ford Territory car is built by the company in collaboration with Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) in order to be made available in China under FMOM (Ford Market Operating Model). This indicates that the American company is getting into partnerships with the local companies of a country to locally get platforms and parts so as to make the cars more cost-friendly. This module of business is especially for the countries in which the cars built on the five global architecture are very expensive.
The Ford Territory looks just like a refreshed version of the JMC Yusheng S330. However, it has been thoroughly redesigned by Ford both inside and out. The exterior design of the car has been tweaked at both the ends.
On the inside, the company has given a dual-tone scheme cabin. The dashboard is wrapped in premium quality leather and has faux wooden trims. This is what makes it much more modern the JMC’s original car.
For the Chinese market, Ford will be offering the Territory with a plug-in hybrid and petrol power plant and also a 48V mild hybrid with petrol. On a global arena, the SUV will be a direct competitor to the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson.
The new Ford Territory is meant for the emerging automobile market and hence, it might not be introduced in the UAE, considering that the SUV portfolio of the company in the Middle East is already huge. It presently sells the Edge, Flex, Explorer and the Expedition among SUV and EcoSport and Escape among smaller cars.
