Ford names its all-electric SUV as Mustang Mach-E - also some leaked info

The Blue Oval brand has finally named its all-electric SUV, which is a zero-emissions crossover, as the Mustang Mach-E. The high-performance SUV will be a part of the Mustang family and is said to be revealed on the 17th of this month, Sunday. The occasion will be graced by the presence of actor Idris Elba.

The teaser sketch and a video of the all-electric SUV came out last month and it looks like that the design is an inspiration taken from the pony car with sleek-looking headlights, sweeping lines on the wheel arches (front and rear both) and a triple set of vertical tail lamps.

Now about the leak!

Just ahead of the official launch, the Mach-E’s details have been leaked. The car will be offered in five trims, namely First Edition, Select, Premium, California Route 1 and the GT.

Mustang Mach-E

The First Edition will come with 19-inch wheels and AWD drive system. Its estimated travel range is 435 km. Additionally, it will feature red brake calipers, unique stitching inside the cabin and exclusive body color. The variant will be a limited edition with a price starting at $US 59,900. It will sprint from zero to 60 miles in 5.5 seconds approx.

The Select model will be offered with AWD and RWD options with 18-inch wheels. Its estimated travel range is 370 km and will start at $US 43,895. It will also sprint to 60 miles from standstill in about the same time as mentioned above.

The California Route 1 model will feature 18-inch wheels, AWD and is expected to be a road trip-focussed variant with 483 km range and acceleration time to touch 60 miles to be around 6.5 seconds.

As for the availability, the First Edition and the Premium models will come sometime in 2020, while all other models will be made available from early 2021. All the AWD models will feature a dual-motor setup, which is similar to what Tesla utilises.

Owners of the car will save $US 893 every year as fuel expenses and $US 285 per year as maintenance charges, according to Ford.

Mustang Mach-E

The Mustang Mach E will offer front-load freedom with a storage capacity of 136 litres. Also, it will be water-resistant. The rear space, on the other hand, is 821 litres that can be extended to up to 1688 litres by folding down the rear seats.

Inside, the Mustang Mach E gets a large portrait-like display in the centre and a secondary display in front of the driver’s seat for vehicle’s vital data and speedometer. The centre display is touch-enabled or not, is yet to be known.
