Ford hits CO2 emission reduction target 8 years early
ABU DHABI: Ford has justified the statement of Napoleon Hill, i.e., “A goal is a dream with a deadline” by achieving its carbon emission target 8 years early. Indeed, a good initiative for the current environmental condition.
Today, Ford Motor Company in its 19th annual sustainability report, stated that the goal of reducing CO2 emission has been already achieved. Ford has hit the said target eight years ahead of schedule.
Bruce Hettle, group VP for manufacturing and labour affairs said, "We are proud of the work we have done to achieve this goal. We have made several improvements to our manufacturing operations - from the lighting we use to plant consolidations - all of which played a role in dramatically reducing our CO2 footprint.”
The goal was set back in 2010, aiming to slash the global carbon emission from the manufacturing activity by 30% per vehicle produced till 2025. From 2010 to 2017, Ford slashed its footprint by more than 3.4 million metric tons globally. This figure is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emission by more than 728,000 vehicles driven for one year.
Ford used every possible energy conservation and efficiency changes to hit the emission footprint at their manufacturing facility. Like installing more than 100,000 LED light fixtures, using wet-on-wet painting techniques that eliminate the need for a drying oven, etc. Ford also added many solar panels to a number of their plants across the globe.
Ford’s new goal is focusing on renewable energy. Whereas, Ford’s existing plans include manufacturing of hybrid and fully electric models on the road by 2022. We are hoping that soon more production facilities will follow the same suit in coming days.
