First 2020 Shelby GT500 sold for a whopping $ 1.1 million
ABU DHABI: The first 2020 Shelby GT500 has got an owner and it’s none other than Craig Jackson, who is the chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. The Shelby GT500 was taken to the Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona to raise funds for charity. While the bidders called out their bets, the winning bid turned out to be from the chairman’s camp itself.
The winning bid for the 2020 Shelby GT500, the most powerful Mustang ever, got to up to a whopping $1.1 million. This hefty sum will help in funding the research and other proceedings to find the cure for Type I Diabetes. The amount will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The global operations president of Ford, Joe Hinrichs said, “The chance to become the owner of the first 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 cars is an opportunity of a lifetime. More importantly, being involved in helping to raise much-needed funds and awareness for JDRF is a big win for everyone.”
At the auction, the Mustang was accompanied to the block by Aaron Shelby, the grandson of Carroll Shelby, and Edsel B. Ford II, the great-grandson of Henry Ford whose presence made the occasion even more momentous. Edsel B. Ford II said, “For 35 years, Ford Motor Company has fueled the efforts of JDRF researchers to find a cure while helping millions of children enjoy better lives. The proceeds from this car will add to the more than $3.5 million Ford contributes to JDRF annually, for a total of $70 million donated during our long-time partnership.”
