Electrified luxury is the theme for BMW at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show

ABU DHABI: In a world where we are constantly charging various devices, our cars don't rely on electricity to get going. This is slowly but steadily changing with electric cars taking over the market. Car manufacturers are jumping onto the electric bandwagon, and BMW is no exception. The company will be showing three plug-in hybrid models at the Geneva Motor Show 2019, one of which will make its world debut.

The three cars on the show floor will be the 745e, X5 xDrive45e, and the 2nd generation plug-in 3 series, the 330e (model making its world premiere). Since efficiency seems to be a major factor for today’s car buyer, all three of these plug-in hybrid models aim to find a balance between performance and efficiency. First up is the BMW 745e and 745Le long-wheelbase model, they use a 3.0-litre straight 6 engine along with powerful batteries. Combined power output stands at 394 PS and 600 Nm of torque with a claimed mileage of 47 kmpl. It has a range of up to 58 km on battery power alone. Power is delivered to all 4 wheels or just the rear wheels. Moving on to the X5 xDrive45e, it has the same engine and power output as the 745e. One differentiating factor is that the X5 can go up to 80 km on battery power while returning 43 kmpl.

Last but not least is the 300e, it loses the straight 6 for a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit. Along with battery assistance, the 3 series makes 252 PS of power. Torque figures are yet to be released. The electric-only range for the 330e stands at up to 60 km while returning an impressive 59 kmpl. According to BMW, the 330e can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 6 seconds flat.

All these models blend performance and efficiency in a compelling package which should lure customers to buy them.
