Bugatti will unveil its new V16 hypercar on June 20

ABU DHABI: Bugatti will unveil its latest V16-engined hypercar on June 20, marking a shift towards electrification. This highly anticipated model features a bespoke design inspired by iconic models such as the Type 35 and Type 57 SC Atlantic, and it will replace the Bugatti Chiron. 

CEO Mate Rimac revealed that the engine's impressive length surpasses the Chiron's four-bank unit, yet the car's shape remains similar to its predecessor, showcasing Bugatti's distinct design evolution. An online video preview of Bugatti's new hypercar assures fans that the brand's iconic design remains intact, with a teaser showing a distinctive horizontal element along the bonnet leading to an enlarged horseshoe grille.

Rimac, known for producing high-performance EVs, played a crucial role in developing the V16 for Bugatti. Initially, plans were to build an electric coupé-SUV, but to preserve Bugatti's heritage, Rimac advocated for the V16. This upcoming model marks the historic return of the V16 engine in production cars, a feat not seen since the 1991 Cizeta-Moroder V16T. 

Other details include Cosworth's involvement and the engine's 8.3-litre capacity, though Bugatti remains tight-lipped. The hybrid powertrain signifies Bugatti's commitment to its 16-cylinder legacy amid the shift towards electrification, although specifics on engine-off running or integration with electric power have not been confirmed yet.
