Bugatti posts mysterious hypercar picture on Instagram
High-performance automobile manufacturer Bugatti has teased sports car enthusiasts on its Instagram page with a picture of what seems to be a mysterious car. The vehicle is entirely covered which has sent rumor mills on an overdrive. Is it a brand new car from the Volkswagen-owned company or another version of the Chiron on its way?
The Chiron has seen a number of variants over the years. The EB110-inspired Centodieci was revealed last year. The car sported angry-looking, slit LED headlamps, and the typical Stormtrooper-helmet look. It commanded a price of $8,881,980. The nose of the mysterious car slopes down like the Centodieci which has fuelled speculation that an improved version of the latter could be in the offing. The front of the car seems sharper than what is seen on Chiron. That aside, barely visible details on the right side, seem to suggest the presence of Centodieci’s slim, wraparound lights.
Industry observers, at the same time, are perplexed at why would Bugatti tease the Centodieci again? The car was fully revealed last August. The extremely limited edition Centodieci is unlikely to be available before 2021. Its production is limited to only 10 units. However, the mysterious vehicle could be a snazzier looking Centodieci, having a special color scheme. But even that seems unlikely with a teaser as mysterious as this.
It’s also unlikely that Bugatti is contemplating a deviated version of the Divo which was the Molsheim-headquartered company’s crown jewel and commanded a price of around $5.8 million. Production was limited to just 40 units. It was hauled by a quad-turbocharged, 8-litre W16 motor, producing a whopping 1,500 PS maximum power. The engine was mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Divo was able to notch a top speed of 380 kmph.
Yet other racing aficionados are of the opinion that the car teased by the company could be the final version of the La Voiture Noire, the one-off gorgeous Bugatti showcased last year. Back then it was revealed as a non-functional prototype. The car is all set to debut at the upcoming Canadian International Auto Show. The La Voiture Noire, at its heart, is a modern reinterpretation of the Type 57 SC Atlantic.
