BMW reveals X3 M and X4 M with new straight six-engine
ABU DHABI: BMW has introduced two new sporty vehicle’s concept in the form of X3 M and X4 M. The concept models appeared in the DTM race at Nurburgring last weekend. The company is now focusing on the smaller segments, as the X5 M and X6 M have witnessed a remarkable success.
Both the crossovers will get aerodynamic M-specific side mirrors. Moreover, a new front bumper, consisting of a large air intake and side inlets, are offered. The honeycomb mesh inserts make the design a bit more aggressive. The wheel arches are quite prominent and flared.
Inside the cabin, there is nothing much to talk about as the manufacturer has not given any hint yet. However, it will get the same treatment for the gear lever, steering wheel and upholstery, like the other M-style models.
Also, BMW has not spoken much about the technical bits and performance. They only revealed that both the cars will consist of a newly-developed straight six-cylinder engine which uses the M TwinPower Turbo technology along with the high-revving characteristics. However, as per the previous reports, the car will be powered by a new S58 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine and will be tuned to belt out a maximum power of 450 PS.
Both the cars will use the xDrive AWD system, which is same as the M5. Apart from this, an eight-speed automatic transmission will send the power to the wheels. The suspension will be sportier and an active M rear axle differential will be featured.
The braking system will also be updated. Moreover, at the rear, four tailpipes and a re-profiled bumper can be seen, along with a new spoiler at the rear apron.
The manufacturer has not revealed the launch date yet, but you can expect the new models to hit the markets soon.
