Audi teases e-tron Sportback with a headlamp image
The Los Angeles Auto Show is just around the corner and automakers have started the teasing game. Audi has put out a teaser image of e-tron Sportback, slated to debut at the show, which starts from the 22nd of this month, showing one of its headlamps. The company will be showcasing the performance-oriented RS Q8 as well at the upcoming show in Los Angeles.
The Audi e-tron Sportback was first previewed as a concept in 2017 which is now ready in its production avatar. The car is said to use a brand new lighting system, which is being referred to as the Digital Matrix Light (DML) by Audi. The new tech features ultra-HD laser projectors with more than 1.3 million pixels each that are being used as high beams and driving lights.
The DML is capable of masking out oncoming vehicles precisely so that they do not get dazzled. Additionally, it illuminates the road surface brilliantly for the driver to estimate road width and also allows graphic-verbal communication through letters and numbers.
Aside from this, there is not much to talk about. Its light camouflaged image was earlier revealed in the month of September so we know majorly about its design, which has been inspired by the standard e-tron SUV, though it now gets a coupe-like shape.
Details about the heart are yet to be announced, however, we expect it to feature the same powertrain as of the standard variant, which is currently on offer in two trims, regular and turbo with two electric motors. While the standard trim puts out 360 PS of power and 561 Nm of torque, the turbocharged variant increases these numbers to 408 PS and 664 Nm for power and torque respectively.
Talking about the RS Q8, it is a high-performance vehicle based on the Audi Q8. Audi is likely to acquaint it with a TFSI twin-turbo V8 4.0-litre engine with a 48-V mild hybrid system for better fuel efficiency. The engine will produce a max power of 650 PS and a peak torque of 850 Nm. Design-wise, the RS Q8 gets sporty upgrades, including bigger alloys, beefy bumpers, and oval-shaped dual exhausts.
