2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 teaser revealed

ABU DHABI: Adding to its already impressive line-up of SUVs and autonomous cars that Ford wants to put on the road by 2020, it has also announced the launch of Shelby Mustang GT500. The first look of the newest Mustang has been finally released.

The new Shelby Mustang will be available in 2019. Although Ford is still keeping most of the details related to the Shelby Mustang under-wraps, it is rumored to be the strongest Mustang from the stables of Ford yet.

Ford’s move to announce the new Mustang is seen by many auto experts as a counter to the recently unveiled Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE and Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Both of these pony cars boast an array of impressive features and designs that are sure to corner some of the sweet-stakes in the Muscle Car world.

So, what is there to be excited about? Though most of the features of the new Mustang are still secret, some details have managed to seep through. The car will reportedly have the supercharged version of the 5.2-litre V8 engine, which currently powers the GT350. The new supercharged V8 is rumored to generate 700 hp. Although, some experts speculate that final output could go up to 800 hp.  

Among other rumored features, Ford is said to equip the Mustang with 7-speed dual clutch transmission. In terms of design, Ford indicated ample use of the carbon fibres in the Mustang’s design which include rear wing, wheels, and ceramic brake rotors.

The sole shot accompanying the launch announcement displays the front-end with the familiar Cobra logo and a vented hood.

Shelby Mustang is not the only anticipated end-of-the-decade vehicle announced by Ford. It has already announced an array of autonomous and electric vehicles, possibly to counter Tesla’s rapidly growing market share in electric and autonomous vehicles.

But for now, Ford has decided to bank on the trusted name of Mustang with the familiar blue oval badge.
