2020 McLaren 620R breaks cover
Mclaren 620R has been revealed and it will enter production early next year. The road-ready Sports Series model will be a limited edition offering, featuring the aerodynamic structure and chassis taken from the 570S GT4 racer. It will be the fastest Sports Series model yet.
Being a fully homologated track car, the McLaren 620R gets a 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine under the hood that is capable of pumping out a max power of 620 PS and a peak torque of 620 Nm. These performance figures have been achieved by tweaking the ECU and by working on the turbocharger management. It’s capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds before hitting the top speed of 322 kmph. It weighs just 1,282 kg.
Underneath, the 620R gets the two-way manually adjustable coil-over system that can be seen on the GT4. The dampers are, however, 6kg lighter than the standard ones. It gets carbon-ceramic brakes and Pirelli Trofeo R semi-slick tyres.
On the outside, it gets a redesigned front bumper, bonnet and splitter, all have been designed to improve airflow. At the back, there is a carbon fibre rear wing similar to the one on the GT4, to help it create 185kg downforce at 250 kmph.
Inside, the 620R gets a choice between an air-conditioning system and a navigation system (for reduced weight). Additionally, you can get an audio system installed too at zero extra cost. There are carbon fibre racing seats with 6-point harnesses as standard that are extremely light in weight and a glovebox. Also, the car comes without any carpeting.
Only 350 units are slated to be produced, with each model featuring the numbered plaque on the dashboard.
