2020 Lamborghini Aventador might have a hybrid naturally-aspirated V12
ABU DHABI: The 2020 Lamborghini Aventador appears to be more into the limelight right now than we could imagine a couple of months ago. However, there are quite a lot of speculations regarding the powertrain that could possibly replace the legendary V12 naturally-aspirated engine.
If sources are to be believed, this new Lambo Aventador could be one of the two models in the electric series production, joining the probable Urus SUV. However, this new supercar would not be the first model from the company to get an electric powertrain.
The 2020 Lamborghini Aventador will preview sometime around the mid of next year and will accompany a limited-run hypercar, which is codenamed as LB48H. This will be the first Lambo to get the electrified engine.
Ahead of the development of this new generation Lamborghini Aventador, there is quite a lot of challenges coming along the way. As for an example, the inclusion of hybrid in the scheme of things is more of a necessity for sustenance than preferred. The governments’ regulations in different parts of the world are different, which are causing a little problem for the company as it makes one spec car globally.
Moreover, the inclusion of a hybrid mechanism in the platform would definitely increase the overall weight of the car, even with the lightweight-solutions in place. But the CTO (Chief Technical Officer) feels that weight saving is more important than increasing the power. However, everything depends on the technology and its improvements from the development phase.
Another challenge for the Italian automaker is the usage of the transmission unit for the electric motor. According to the chief, using a conventional transmission like the BMW i8 is a valid solution. It will help a lot in smoothening the performance by keeping a check on the high torque interruption.
The Chief himself is more of a purist and feels that a hybrid mechanism with a naturally-aspirated motor is better than downsizing and adding turbochargers, especially when outright acceleration comes into play.
