2019 Chevrolet Bolt launched in the UAE

ABU DHABI: Electric is the future. This statement has been floating around from a long time now. But finally, we are now seeing a lot of manufacturers actually coming up with some quality electric vehicles. Chevrolet has given its 2019 Bolt the title of “the future has arrived”, and it wholly justifies it as well. The 2019 Chevrolet Bolt is a compact hatchback that has been developed in tandem with LG, one of the leading electronics company in the world.

The 2019 Bolt was launched at the training centre in Dubai’s International Media Production Zone (IMPZ). Where the folks from the Chevrolet technical training team were also giving presentations on the technology used and the work-how of the electric hatchback.

The 2019 Chevrolet Bolt looks like a regular hatchback and one cannot differentiate it from the petrol version just by the looks of it. And the looks aren’t out of the world either. The Bolt looks good and that’s it. There is not much to talk about the looks apart from the aero shutters in the front grille, which opens up when there’s the need of air from outside for cooling.

Bolt is the fourth electric vehicle from Chevrolet. First come in the Chevrolet Volt (2011), followed by the Spark EV (2013), and Volt Gen-II (2016). And if the speculations hold something, there might be two electric SUVs coming up as well in the next 18 months or so.

In the 2019 Bolt, Chevrolet has used liquid cooling to keep the batteries temperature low, which lie under the floor for a lower centre of gravity. Unlike other automakers, who use conventional air cooling, Chevrolet has used a better technology to keep the temperature of the batteries under check in the scorching heat. The power figures read out 207 PS and a peak torque of 360 Nm. Then there is a 60-kWh battery pack which is enough to take you 500 km on a single charge. Charging times are 2.5 hours and 10 hours with the DC fast charger and the conventional AC charger, respectively.

Drive experience is also quite different in the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt. The one-pedal drive allows the driver to accelerate using the throttle pedal and once the pedal is released, the regenerative braking charges the batteries back and also slows down the vehicle. This not only results in an increased range but also helps in saving the brake pads for a longer usage. There is also an extra brake pedal behind the steering wheel, for that extra regen, when needed.

Overall, the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt is great EV. The range is very much acceptable and the looks are like any other hatchback. So, if you have got AED 162,00 for a hatchback and want to contribute to the environment, Bolt is the car you wanna bring home.
