2018 Suzuki Jimny dealer dispatches begin ahead of the official reveal

ABU DHABI: Scheduled to be officially revealed next month on July 5, the next-gen Suzuki Jimny is ready to get delivered to the dealership outlets in Japan. The shots clearly reveal the undisguised Jimny in transit. While the official pictures of the next-gen off-roader are out, there is a lot to be revealed on July 5, 2018.

It is said that the all-new Jimny uses a new chassis and offers better off-roading capabilities than its predecessor. It will be available in two different variants, Jimny and Jimny Sierra in Japan. The former will be powered by a turbocharged 0.66-litre three-cylinder petrol engine while the latter gets a 1.5-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both engines will be mated either to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 2018 Jimny will also be offered with the optional Suzuki Allgrip Pro 4x4 setup.

Design-wise, the new Jimny is a modern off-roader boxed inside a retro profile. At the front, there is an iconic five-slot grille, round headlights, and fog lamps lower down the black heavy duty bumper. There is a wide air-dam at the centre for optimum heat management. The Jimny will either get 15-inch or 16-inch wheels, not specified as yet. The higher-spec variant is likely to host visual upgrades in form of wider tyres, dual-tone colour options, wheel arch cladding finished in black, and striking new alloys.

Some of the features on the new Jimny have been borrowed from the new Swift that includes the push button start, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, SmartPlay infotainment system with touchscreen, and a new MID unit.

The Suzuki Jimny has always been known for its off-road agility and with the ladder-on-frame body and a three-point rigid suspension, the 2018 Jimny is expected to live up to its cult reputation. The official reveal isn’t too far now and we expect more relevant details coming our way in the near future. It is also believed that the new Jimny will quietly enter the UAE market by early 2019.
