Search for the better sedan - Honda Civic vs Toyota Corolla
The compact sedans have indeed made a mark in the UAE auto market, and the two cars selling like hotcakes among the trope are the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla. In terms of performance both the vehicles are actually at par, but what differentiates the two? Is the need of the hour.
We have compared both the vehicles in brief, based on their design, safety features, power plant, and cabin amenities. This might help you make a better choice between the two sedans.
Exterior & Interior Design
Both the sedans come with a stylish look and will not go unnoticed on the street. The Honda Civic, with its fastback design, sleek profile, and long wheelbase though looks a lot more attractive. The C-shaped LED tail lights perfectly compliment the distinctive LED daytime running lights incorporated in the headlamps.
The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system is placed right below the AC vents. Its 3-spoke steering wheel features some utility controls. Other features like keyless entry, heated seats, climate control, etc. are also equipped in the Civic, along with 519 litres of boot space.
Toyota, on the other hand, has provided Altis with more or less the same features as Honda Civic. The Corolla doesn’t fail to catch up when it comes to providing a luxurious feel, but it still lags behind when it comes to boot space and leg space.
Performance & Handling
When it comes to engine and performance, there is not much to choose between Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. The 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine of the Honda Civic produces a maximum power of 124 PS at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 151 Nm at 4,300 rpm. The Toyota Corolla is powered by its 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine that generates an output of 122 PS at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 154 Nm at 5,200 rpm. However, the Honda Civic takes the edge over Toyota Corolla when it comes to fuel efficiency.
The handling and smoothness of driving in both the vehicles is more or less the same. Both the cars are equipped with features to ensure a smooth ride.
Safety & Pricing
The new generation Honda Civic is equipped with a number of safety features. With as many as six airbags and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). The car also houses passive safety features like Tyre Deflation Warning, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Traction Control System (TCS), Agile Handling Assist (AHA), and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).
On the other hand, the Toyota Corolla is packed with safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Anti-theft System with Immobilizer, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Tire Pressure Warning System, Cruise Control, Dual Front Airbags, and Child Restraint System (ISO-fix). Both the cars come stuffed with many safety features which ensure you have a safe and comfortable ride.
With so many similarities between the two vehicles, one can expect the price of both the cars to be on the same lines as well. The starting price of the Honda Civic is AED 67,900, whereas, the Toyota Corolla is available with a starting price tag of AED 66,900.
Overall, if you look at both the cars, there is not much to differentiate. The engines, interiors, safety features, and even the prices are more or less equal. But what has made Honda Civic the bestselling compact sedan in the UAE is its styling, more cabin space, and fuel efficiency.
