Jeep Wrangler - What we like and dislike
The Jeep Wrangler has a rich history of its own. It was back in 1986 when the first generation Wrangler was made. Since then, Jeep has continuously updated the Wrangler to make it that much closer to perfection. The Wrangler is essentially designed to be an anywhere-to-go SUV-ish vehicle. Its supreme off-road capabilities made it quite popular among the enthusiasts and off-road fanatics here in the Middle East. Here are a few things that we like and dislike about the Jeep Wrangler.
Jeep Wrangler Likes
Interior
Considering the fact that the Wrangler usually spends most of the part of its life in off-road conditions, it has got nice interior. There are features like Voice Command using Jeep’s Uconnect, Bluetooth connectivity to link smartphones, lockable center console, Alpine Premium Sound System, etc. The unique feature of the Wrangler is that all its models come with a durable and washable interior with drain plugs. This allows you to even wash the interior after returning from that thrilling off-road drive in the slush.
Powerful engine
Since the Wrangler is made to take you to your destination irrespective of the terrain conditions, it has to have a powerful and capable engine. And indeed it has one. The Jeep Wrangler comes with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine which Jeep claims produce best-in-class 285 horsepower and 347 Nm of torque. It comes with an option of either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox. And, of course, there is 4x4 as standard.
Off-road capabilities
There are a few clever and advanced technologies incorporated in the Jeep Wrangler to extract the best of it in off-road conditions. There is the Dana 44 Front Axle that gives the Wrangler a bit more ground clearance. The Tru-Lok Locking Differentials provide all the traction you need to get through the tractionless path. Then there is the Sway Bar Disconnect System which allows you to automatically disengage the sway bar when driving under a specific speed limit. Consequently, the front wheels can then drop and compress up to 25% further.
To help the Wrangler easily manage the uneven off-road terrain, Jeep has provided 35 degrees of approach angle, whereas the departure angle is set at 28 degrees and the breakover angle is 18 degrees.
Highly customizable
The Jeep Wrangler comes in many avatars and each one of them can be customized as per the customer’s needs. Of course, you have to pick from the available official options. For example, you can choose between a soft or a hard top. If you go for the hard top then you get more options like body colored hard top or black hard top. Similarly, there are a plethora of such options for you to browse. Apart from the official customization options, there are numerous aftermarket parts and accessories easily available to get your Wrangler done in your way.
Jeep Wrangler Dislikes
Boxy design
The Jeep Wrangler has got an iconic design. The front features the legendary seven-piece vertical grille that let others know that a Jeep is rolling in. However, the boxy design surely doesn’t please everyone. Plus its shape makes it less aerodynamic efficient which effects the overall fuel efficiency and ride quality.
Difficult to get into
Being an off-road vehicle, the Jeep Wrangler is a bit taller than the regular cars and SUVs. While it is an advantage in off-road conditions and also in city driving, as you sit a bit higher than the others, but it definitely makes getting in and out of the vehicle a bit of a challenge. You need to literally climb into the cabin and not step in.
Not your regular vehicle
If you are in the market looking for a vehicle for your usual purposes like buying groceries, commuting to your work, dropping kids to school, etc. then you should consider something else but Wrangler. It is not like that Wrangler would not be able to do all the usual stuff, it is just that it is too much for doing that stuff. It is designed to survive in extreme off-road conditions which makes it a bit less suitable for the daily activities. Although Jeep has improved the ride quality and suspension setup, but still, buy something else if you do not plan to take your vehicle off the road.
Everything is optional
You see, the customizability of the Jeep Wrangler is one of its biggest USPs, but the fact that everything on the vehicle comes as an option is really annoying. Like even some of the basic stuff like metal doors, floor mats, etc., all are optional. So you end up paying for things that you should have been provided in the first place.
These were some of the likes and dislikes of the Jeep Wrangler. However, in the end, it all depends on your personal preferences because it is you who will be spending a fortune to get a Wrangler in your garage.
