2025 Toyota Camry: First impression

The Toyota Camry is almost colloquially seen as the world’s midsize family sedan. The popular nameplate has been on sale since the 1980s, though the outgoing model reached the GCC in 2017. Nearly 7 years later, Al-Futtaim Motors has now unveiled the 2025 Toyota Camry in the UAE.

The ninth-generation Camry is based on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, an architecture that it shares with its eighth-generation predecessor. The all-new Toyota Camry loses out on its famed V6 engine but makes up for that with revised styling, more features, improved performance & fuel economy, and more aggressive pricing.

Exterior

The front fascia of the 2025 Toyota Camry boasts the all-new ‘hammerhead’ design language, also seen on the new Prius. This bold yet sleek look embodies a sense of modern sophistication mixed with a tinge of everyday sportiness. The aerodynamic fin making up the hammerhead shape blends neatly into the slim headlights, which also house stylish LED DRLs/indicators.

The sleek design of the taillights has been revised with C-shaped LEDs that are also composed of the primary running elements. The front and rear bumpers have been touched upon as well, but the changes are not radical. Depending on the trim level, the 2025 Toyota Camry gets a boot-lip spoiler, dual-tip exhaust, and fashionable 18-inch alloy wheels.

Despite belonging to the latest generation, the 2025 Toyota Camry is mostly an evolutionary update of the previous-generation model. This is reflected in its exterior dimensions as well and we don’t get to see any major growth in size. However, the new Toyota Camry is 4,920 mm long – 30 mm longer than the car it replaces.

As for width, the 2025 Toyota Camry measures 1,840 mm, while the roof sits 1,445 mm off of the ground. A wheelbase of 2,825 mm also remains unchanged, ditto for the 493 liters of boot space. The hunkered-down and chiselled side profile of the Camry and its gently sloping roof continue sans much alteration.

Interior

Stepping inside the cabin of the 2025 Toyota Camry from the previous-generation model will reveal some important updates. The fancier-looking steering wheel is new and straight from the flagship Toyota Crown, while the upper half of the dashboard is new as well. The open-concept design makes for a sleek and contemporary-looking interior.

The redesigned centre console gets slim AC vents located right below the equally slim HVAC panel. Above that is the new Camry’s 12.3-inch infotainment screen, with top trim levels also getting a fully digital instrument cluster. The side AC vents have been redone and there’s an extended slatted design in front of the co-driver.

Toyota has redesigned the seats of the 2025 Camry by lengthening their bases and adding more cushioning. The softer headrests have been moved slightly aft and acoustically laminated front-side windows reduce wind noise. All these upgrades will boost the comfort quotient of the 2025 Toyota Camry, while there should be slightly more room as well.

Features like a powered rear sunshade, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, and ventilated front seats will be handy in the summer. Higher trims also get leatherette upholstery on the seats and armrests, with softer leather covering the steering wheel. The Camry can be had with a panoramic sunroof and a wireless phone charger.

Engine and performance

As mentioned earlier, the 2025 Toyota Camry can no longer be had with the silky-smooth 2GR-FKS 3.5-liter V6 engine. Prospective buyers in the UAE can still choose between two naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engines. The base 2.5-litre motor produces 201 hp and 240 Nm of torque, spinning the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic.

This powertrain should allow the Toyota Camry 2.5 to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around 9 seconds, while the top speed is likely to be over 190 kmph. According to Toyota, the fuel consumption of the new Camry 2.5 is 17.1 kmpl or 5.8 litres per 100 km. In the real world, however, you will be hard-pressed to see the trip metre reflecting anything close to that.

Then there is the 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid, which is also powered by a 2.5-litre four-popper. However, helping things along is a small lithium-ion battery that energises an electric motor located in the front axle. This battery pack is situated under the rear seats, thus leaving the boot untouched. The hybrid variant should also be quicker from 0 to 100 kmph.

On the other hand, this has resulted in a smaller fuel tank of 50 litres (versus 60 litres in N/A model). The combined system output of the Toyota Camry Hybrid is 227 horsepower, all routed to the front wheels through a CVT gearbox. The officially rated fuel consumption of the 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid is 27.7 kmpl or 3.6 L/100 km.

The new Toyota Camry’s suspension has been tweaked for improved agility with better body control. The suspension setup still prioritises comfort over sporty dynamics, but the new model will likely handle corners with more poise. However, the firmer suspension could lead to a slightly harsher ride over less-than-ideal surfaces.

Conclusion

The new 2025 Toyota Camry sticks to the nameplate’s tried & tested formula of efficient comfort. Toyota has made incremental upgrades while keeping the price fairly reasonable. Speaking of which, the price of the 2025 Toyota Camry in the UAE ranges between AED 109,900 and AED 139,900.

Adopting Toyota’s latest design language means that the new Camry looks more interesting than its precursor, whilst retaining its strengths.
