Volkswagen Beetle Expert Review
Volkswagen is known worldwide for its outstanding body dynamics and extremely sumptuous interiors. Volkswagen Beetle, the exquisite mid-size vintage car, is no exception. The car was first introduced in 1934 as Volkswagen Type 1. After tasting a sweet success all over Europe the car entered into the UAE market and ever since its debut, the car received an overwhelming response at the sales registers throughout the country. Much credit for this goes to its classic exterior body, graceful interiors and a decent performance which makes the car a superb combination of elegance blended with superior performance.
Volkswagen Beetle Interior & Features
Inside, the Beetle pays homage to its roots; an elegant instrument cluster with an alluring round dial in the centre is reminiscent of the classic old Beetle. The standard Vienna leather upholstery in the SEL variant turns time spent in traffic jams into relaxation sessions. The car has been equipped with plenty of high quality infotainment and audio features, the most notable of them being the advanced RNS 510 radio/navigation system that boasts a 16.5 cm touchscreen display which serves as an interface for audio, navigation and communication controls. The car has been equipped with a high power Fender Audio System which comes with 10-channel amplifier of a total output of 400 watts which is bound to elevate the acoustic experience. Beetle offers plenty of storage compartments alongwith an appreciable boot space which measures 310 litres.
Beetle Exterior
Beetle has got captivating looks all over the exteriors which gives a unique hunch at first sight. It blends perfect proportions with a vintage look and a sportingly elegant exterior that embodies dynamism even when standing still. The elegantly designed headlights beam out from underneath the imposing bonnet, flanked at the sides by athletic sills which adds to the elegance. The elegant circular headlights, the powerfully contoured flanks and the more rounded roof transitions injects the car with an unprecedented dynamism. Beetle comes employed with alloy wheels of rim size 17 inch, 18 inch and 19 inch available in many alluring designs which exudes dynamism even when the car is not moving. Beetle is no small car which is quite evident from its dimensions which stand out to be 4278 mm x 1808 mm x 1486 mm(L x W x H) and the wheelbase of the car measures 2537 mm which makes provisions for ample of cabin space inside.
Volkswagen Beetle Engine & Fuel Consumption
Beetle is available in 3 variants namely S, SE and SEL. Hidden beneath the elegant bumper is the powerful turbo TSI engine with which one is bound to experience the blissful moments. The sole 2.0 litre engine deployed in the car can churn out a maximum power of 155 kW at 5300 rpm coupled with an appreciable torque of 280 Nm at 1700 rpm. The agile character of the car simply responds perfectly to the accelerator. The car reaches 0-100 km/hr mark in 7.3 seconds and can clock a top speed of 227 km/hr. Alongwith a decent power delivery, TSI engines are particularly economical too as they apply the proven downsizing principle. The car can give an appreciable fuel economy of 13.1 kmpl.
Beetle Braking & Safety
When it comes to agile handling, Volkswagen Beetle would definitely not fail to impress you. The innovative 6 speed dual clutch gearbox provided in the car is more economical than a conventional manual gearbox and saves you a fair amount of money on fuel. The standard Electronic Stabilization Programme(ESP) works in harmonics with the Anti Lock Breaking System(ABS) which augments the control over the car. The German automakers have been quite meticulous regarding the safety of the passengers and have equipped the car with plenty of safety features like lane assist, Hill Assist, Cruise Control, optimally placed fullsize airbags, Park Pilot and so on which are more than enough to keep you and your vehicle safe.
Verdict:
The retro Volkswagen Beetle is a fun to drive, full of character car which comes with a spacious cabin equipped with plenty of comfort features. However, the low boot space might settle a bit of disgruntlement.
