VW-owned Scout unveils Terra pickup and Traveler SUV in pre-production form
ABU DHABI: After 44 years since the last International Scout rolled off the production line, the classic off-roader still enjoys a dedicated global fanbase. Volkswagen-owned Scout Motors has now previewed its fully-electric Terra Pickup and Scout Traveler SUV in near-production form, reviving the iconic brand.

Both models' designs are inspired by the original Scout, featuring a defined shoulder line, long bonnet, short overhangs, skid plates, reinforced bumpers, and body-on-frame construction.The Scout Traveler electric SUV will compete with the Land Rover Defender, while the Terra pickup will target the Chevrolet Silverado, Tesla Cybertruck, and Rivian R1T. Both models come with a body-on-frame platform different from Volkswagen’s PPE and MEB architectures. Canadian firm Magna will supply batteries and electronics.
The Scout Traveler and Terra were designed initially as pure-electric revivals. However, due to declining EV concerns and interest in recharging on the road, they will now be available with optional petrol-powered range extenders. With the help of a range extender, both these models can achieve between fill-ups over 800 km, up from 560 km.
No confirmation has been made about battery size but as per Scout, the platform supports charging up to 350 kW. Both models feature a dual-motor four-wheel-drive powertrain. The Traveler takes just 3.5 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 kph, though there are no details about power figures.

The Terra and Traveler will be manufactured in South Carolina at Scout's factory, where the Volkswagen Group is planning to increase production capacity annually to 200,000 units. This strategic expansion showcases the commitment of the company to meeting the growing demand for EVs.
