Volkswagen uses GTX tag for high-performance ID electric vehicles
Volkswagen is all set to mark the beginning of an electric era, as the production of ID.3 has started recently. The automaker also previewed concept versions of some future ID. models, including ID. Space Vizzion wagon. Now, as per the recent update revealed by Autocar, Volkswagen is also in the process of bringing the performance versions of its electric ID vehicles and for that, it has chosen the tag ‘GTX’.
The firm is already using GTI, GTD, and GTE tags for the performance range of its gas, diesel, and plug-in hybrid vehicles. For the GTX moniker, Volkswagen says that it will not be limited to interior and exterior modifications only, rather it signifies much more than that. The letter X in GTX denotes a twin-motor configuration, which means that GTX trims will have one motor for powering the front wheels and another one for the rear wheels. Not only this, but the GTX variants will also have sportier equipment. Though, nothing is disclosed on the battery capacity, whether it would be the same or increased.
The Volkswagen ID.5 is expected to launch with the GTX badge. The promising model will equip the dual-motor AWD engine, which had already debuted with the ID.Crozz. The setup is capable of producing 306 PS of power and can sprint 0-100 kmph in just 5 seconds. Volkswagen will start its production in early 2021.
If we talk about the exterior and interior changes to be done in GTX variants, they are expected to feature beefier body kits and different wheels on the outer front, while sportier trim can be seen on the inside. Speaking of the current fastest VW ID model, it is ID.3, which produces 201 PS of power. But it comprises of a single electric motor mounted on the rear wheels, which implies that GTX EVs will be more powerful. For more updates on GTX development, stay tuned to Zigwheels UAE.
