Volkswagen reveals Passat Pro sedan in China

ABU DHABI: While Volkswagen has discontinued the Passat internationally, the new Passat Pro was revealed by the company at the 2024 Chengdu Motor Show.  The Passat Pro has been produced by the SAIC-Volkswagen venture.

The China-exclusive Passat Pro retains the wagon's front design but introduces reshaped rear doors that complement its sleek, sloping roofline. At the rear, the tailgate of the European model is replaced with a longer, Audi-inspired trunk, extending the overall length to 5,006 mm. This design choice makes the sedan noticeably longer than its European wagon counterpart, which measures 4,917 mm.

Inside, the Passat Pro comes with a digital cockpit with a 15.0-inch infotainment screen, a 10.3-inch instrument cluster, and an 11.6-inch passenger display. It comes with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, an augmented reality head-up display, and ADAS developed by DJI. The Passat Pro also comes with unique "cloud feeling" seats that offer massage, heating, and cooling functions, along with an in-car fragrance system and 30-color ambient lighting.

Currently, the Passat Pro is available in only a single powertrain option: the 2.0-litre TSI, utilised across Volkswagen Auto Group models. This engine is mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and delivers 217 hp and 350 Nm of torque. While it does not offer electrified options, a plug-in hybrid version is expected.

The Passat Pro is available exclusively in China and won’t be released in the UAE.
