Volkswagen introduces Tharu XR SUV in China
ABU DHABI: Volkswagen has revealed the Tharu XR to strengthen its presence in the Chinese SUV market. Manufactured through the Volkswagen-SAIC joint venture, the latest model is positioned between the larger Tharu models and T-Cross. The automaker recently released only exterior images of the Tharu XR SUV.

Volkswagen is planning to offer the Tharu XR SUV with two powertrain choices: a turbocharged 1.5L petrol and a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol variant.The Tharu XR shares the MQB A0 platform with the T-Cross and Taigun. It measures 1,762 mm in width, 4,355 mm in length, and 1,605 mm in height. Compared to the Taigun, this new SUV is approximately 134 mm longer while maintaining similar dimensions in height and width. With a wheelbase of 2,651 mm, identical to the T-Cross and Taigun, it ensures a consistent structural foundation across various Volkswagen models.
Volkswagen is planning to offer the Tharu XR SUV with two powertrain choices: a turbocharged 1.5L petrol and a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol variant producing 158 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It will pair the turbocharged engine with a 7-speed automatic DSG transmission.
The Tharu XR showcases body panels and doors reminiscent of the Taigun, complemented by a redesigned front bumper, headlamps, and grille. Its upscale aesthetics are further accentuated by a larger rear bumper with contrasting accents and connected, dark-tinted tail lamps.
Currently, Volkswagen is not planning to launch the Tharu XR SUV in the UAE.
