Volkswagen commemorates 50 years of iconic compact car with the introduction of Golf Edition 50

ABU DHABI: The Volkswagen Golf was introduced in 1974 as the successor of the Beetle. It completely changed the compact car landscape with its adaptable interior design and front-wheel-drive setup while its sleek aesthetics established a timeless appeal. It remains the best-selling car in Europe with over 37 million units sold. As the Golf enters its 50th year it has come up with the Golf Edition 50, a special anniversary model.

Its exclusivity has been amplified by the Edition 50 logos on the front sill panel moldings and the steering wheel. As per the German automaker, it has got brushed stainless steel pedal caps, a black headliner, and a new infotainment system. You get a sliding panoramic sunroof, advanced LED headlamps, and head-up display as part of the Plus Package.

The Golf Edition 50 is equipped with a "Discover" infotainment system with IDA voice assistant and navigation, driving profile selection, keyless start and locking system, and an anti-theft alarm.

The powertrain option offered by the Volkswagen Golf Edition 50 includes a 1.5L TSI gasoline engine that produces 148 hp, mated with a manual gearbox. In Germany, the starting price of this model is €36,820 (AED 146,190.93) which is slightly higher than the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

In addition to introducing the Golf Edition 50, Volkswagen also reflected on the birth of the model highlighting its journey from inception to becoming the most successful model in automotive history.
