Porsche 911 Hybrid is on its way but not sooner than you think
ABU DHABI: The eighth-generation of the classic sports machine is ready to roar in the new hybrid form, which is more refined, advanced, and powerful. Though it is not coming anytime sooner than you think, the Porsche 911 Hybrid will be available in the four years time from now, that is by 2022.
The product line director at Porsche, August Achleitner said, “It will be the next evolution of this car, that means at least four years from today.” The 911 Hybrid will be a performance-focused model capable of delivering as much torque as that of a McLaren Senna (800 Nm).
The Porsche 911 Hybrid is the future of cars with magic lying in its new gearbox. The new hybrid version will ditch the 7-speed dual-clutch PDk for an 8-speed transmission system. The new gearbox will hold up a small e-motor that would revolutionize the whole torque game. However, positioning a small e-motor for torque boost under the crunched skin of the classic model won’t be easy for the automaker. Clever engineering minds would be at work to achieve this feat for sure.
The new gearbox is similar to the one on the Porsche Panamera and as you know there are two hybrid variants of the same are available in the market, including the V8 Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid and the V6 Panamera e-hybrid. So, we can expect the company to be taking cues from the already installed gearbox on the hybrid Panamera.
If the system manages to put out the rated torque figure of 813 Nm then it would certainly take the market by storm and will be a significant leap in torque from the current Turbo S version that produces 749.7 Nm of torque. Expect some big changes happening at Porsche for the same.
