New Land Rover Defender launched in Singapore
Wearnes Automotive has launched the 2020 Land Rover Defender in Singapore, alongside the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport and the new Jaguar XE at the Singapore Motor Show. Wearnes is the brand guardian of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) cars in Singapore.
JLR Asia pacific managing director Robin Colgan said that the 2020 Defender represents the developed and improved range of Land Rover and Jaguar models over the last decade.
The modernized detailing visible on the Defender has been carried out by the team headed by Land Rover’s chief designer Gerry McGovern. The same detailing can also be seen on the car’s seats and interior accessories. The 2020 Defender has been designed to perform as a mainstream vehicle for the international market.
Attendees to the launch event were shown a short video that displayed the new Land Rover Defender’s capabilities.
The Defender, reportedly, will be available in six trims. These include the standard, S, SE, HSE, and the First Edition versions. The Defender X is the top-level version. The Defender standard has a ‘Resolve’ textile cabin, while the S and SE versions sport a grained leather interior. The Defender X is done with an eco-friendly/Windsor leather textile mix. The HSE, on the other hand, only gets Windsor leather.
The new Defender gets the old version’s boxy design with a modern twist. Its exterior looks more rugged. The door hinges, exposed in the original version, are now absent. The front is now curvier. It has a flatter bonnet with angular grooves and a round face that resembles the new Discovery.
The 2020 land Rover Defender is a technologically advanced car. It comes with the new Pivi Pro entertainment unit developed by Land Rover. The unit has over-the-air (OTA) software update capability which can be run on the background while the system continues to play music. The car comes with the ClearSight Ground View technology and Configurable Terrain Response that allow the driver to take the new Defender to all possible terrains. The latter, as Land Rover claims, enhances the off-road capabilities of the car.
The new Land Rover Defender will come in a choice of two diesels, one petrol, and one petrol-electric hybrid engine. All powertrains will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission system.
