McLaren hits 50,000 units production milestone
ABU DHABI: McLaren has been among the top supercar makers since the time it entered the industry in 2011 as an independent automaker. Ever since its first car, which was the MP4-12C, the company has crossed the milestone of 15,000 unit production milestone.
Of late, McLaren has been receiving a good demand all around the world and makes around 278 cars in a month on an average. The supercar manufacturer had crossed the 10,000 units milestone back in 2016 before the flagship 720S car hit the showrooms. The company has even introduced the track-focused, “Senna” hypercar after the milestone was crossed.
The CEO of McLaren, Mr. Mike Flewitt, has expressed his views on the occasion of the 15,000 production milestone. He has said that though the first 10,000 units took a long time to be achieved, the next 5,000 units production were achieved in just 18 months. This goes on to show how high the company has reached in terms of the demand.
Flewitt has even indicated at the significance of the Sports series cars in the company’s strategy saying that the 570S Spider has managed to become the most popular car in the entire range. In fact, to be able to produce around 20 cars in a day is a testimonial of how hard everyone in the company has been working.
It is to be noted that though a huge chunk of the 15,000 cars was produced at the company’s headquarter facility at Woking, United Kingdom, McLaren did make cars in collaboration with the German manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, some time back. The company can even boast on the fact that one of the most iconic cars in the history of supercars held a McLaren logo (McLaren F1) and was a benchmark car of the 90’s.
McLaren seems to be working on a new SUV also, similar to the Lamborghini Urus. This new SUV from the British automaker would help the company to get the sales figure higher up, just like the Italian counterpart, Lambo. However, this is just a rumor and the idea of an SUV is far from being confirmed.
