  • The new concept car has been named the Lotus Theory 1 and it boasts a new design philosophy called The Lotus Theory, which is guided by three principles: Analog, Digital, and Natural—forming the acronym DNA.

The Theory 1’s design seems to be inspired by the Series 1 Esprit. It’s been developed in Coventry at Lotus’ design center and boasts a platform measuring 2,000mm wide, 1,140mm tall, and 4,490mm long with a 2,650mm wheelbase. The front end features drag-reducing air deflectors and diffusers, optimizing downforce and enhancing cooling with an adjustable rear wing. Its design has been split between a unibody structure and exposed carbon fiber that merges into a glass dome roof.

The 3-seater layout of Theory 1 makes it look similar to the McLaren F1, with two passenger seats behind and a central driver's seat. The driver's seat has been fixed, but the pedals and steering wheel are adjustable. In place of an infotainment screen, this vehicle comes with a speedometer near the windscreen and a small display on the steering wheel.

The Theory 1 comes with an all-wheel-drive twin-motor electric powertrain. A 70 kWh battery powers it, generating a combined 1,000 hp. It takes under 2.5 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 kmph and has a 320 kmph top speed. The battery offers a 402 km WLTP-certified range on a single charge.

In the brand’s glorious history, Lotus Theory 1 marks a new chapter, blending stunning design and impressive technology with its electrification revolution.
