Lotus Cars and Williams collaborate, will we see an all-new EV hypercar?
ABU DHABI: Lotus Cars have joined hands with Williams Advanced Engineering, a British automaker, for a strategic technology partnership involving the two parties to share exclusive research and development into propulsion technologies. Williams Advanced Engineering is a reputed name in motorsports domain and advanced propulsion systems. The automaker appreciates efforts of Lotus Cars for producing lightweight structures, applying modern-day technologies, and using advanced materials in their own cars as well as for other global engineering clients.
The managing director of Williams Advanced Engineering, Craig Wilson said, “Williams Advanced Engineering takes great pride in delivering innovation for our customers at a rapid pace of development, born from our Formula One heritage. We will be further developing next-generation powertrains in this partnership with Lotus”.
On the other hand, the CEO of Lotus Cars, Phil Popham said, “Our new technology partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering is part of a strategy to expand our knowledge and capability in the rapidly changing automotive landscape. Applying advanced propulsion powertrains can provide numerous exciting solutions across multiple vehicle sectors. Our combined and complementary experiences make this a very compelling match of engineering talent, technical ability and pioneering British spirit”.
What projects will the partnership result into? Is still unknown. An official statement on the same is expected to come out soon. However, there are rumours that the new partnership would be for an all-new fully-electric hypercar, known as Project Omega. The concept is expected to be showcased later this year. Nothing is evident as of now but all this comes after considering that Lotus is a manufacturer of lightweight cars whereas Williams Advanced Engineering is known for having significant knowledge of battery technology. Assuming them to be working on a completely new electric hypercar won’t be irrelevant.
