Kia teases new sub-compact SUV ahead of the world premiere
Kia Motors India has released a set of teasers for its new compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) which is slated for its world premiere at the 2020 Auto Expo. The car is expected to roll out during the October-November Indian festive season and will be the company’s smallest vehicle in India as of now. The sub-4m SUV, internally titled QYI, will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol version, Ford EcoSport, and Hyundai Venue. It will also compete with the Mahindra XYV300 and the updated Tata Nexon.
The new Kia sub-4m SUV borrows its underpinnings from the Hyundai Venue. The former will have a unique interior and exterior design. The front will sport the typical Kia Tiger-nosed grille along with honeycomb inserts. The front bumper will have a muscular look, courtesy the air dams. The headlights will be of standard setup but with unique vents below the units to add to the sporty look.
The exterior of the car has a flat-type bonnet with square-shaped wheel arches. A black cladding runs across the vehicle’s length. The alloy wheels seem to have a diamond-cut. The production model of the new Kia sub-4m SUV may finally get larger alloy wheels than the 16-inch units seen on the concept version. The window line in the concept car rises near the back door to forge a crossover-like look.
The new sub-compact SUV, at the back, sports a floating D-pillar. According to the teasers, the car will have a rear spoiler and roof rails. The bumper will have black inserts along with matte-silver embellishments to enhance the SUV-look. Details about the vehicle’s cabin are expected to be disclosed ahead of the official launch.
The production-specific Kia QYI is likely to be hauled by a turbocharged, 1.5-litre BS-VI diesel motor. The petrol options would include a 1.2-litre standard engine and a 1.0-litre turbocharged unit, similar to what is offered in the Hyundai Venue.
