KEY TAKEAWAYS
Where will the production of the new EV5 take place?
Kia will build the EV5 in China and Korea. The China-spec model will be available in three variants: standard, long-range, and long-range AWD.Why has Kia employed the 400V system in the EV5?
Kia has decided to employ the 400V system in the EV5 to keep the cost down. The new Kia EV5 is a midsize electric SUV based on the E-GMP platform, like the EV9 and EV6 and its cousins, the Genesis GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Kia will build the EV5 in China and Korea and then in Europe. The EV5 adopts the E-GMP platform's distinct version with adjusted electronic architecture at 400V. This is in contrast to the EV9 and EV6, which support high-speed charging at 800V. It seems that Kia has decided to employ the 400V system to keep the cost down.
The China-spec model will be available in three variants: standard with 64kWh battery (530km range) and 160kW motor, long-range with 88kWh battery (720km range) and 160kW motor, and long-range AWD with 88kWh battery (650km range) and 230kW dual-motor. It will take just 27 minutes to charge up to 30% to 80% battery.
The Kia Concept EV4 adopts the 'Power to Progress' design philosophy. It is an electric sedan with a minimalist interior, slimmed-down instrument panel, two digital screens, and a spacious cabin layout.
Coming to the Kia Concept EV3, it is inspired by the 'Joy for Reason' philosophy. The cabin of the EV features natural, lightweight fiber seats. Kia is also investing in bio-fabrication for future materials, like mycelium which is extracted from mushroom roots as a replacement for leather.
