Hyundai introduces Ioniq 9 as its new flagship electric SUV

ABU DHABI: Hyundai has officially unveiled the Ioniq 9, a flagship three-row electric SUV, as part of its Ioniq EV lineup. This three-row SUV has been designed to cater to the demand for family-oriented, larger EVs.

    The vehicle boasts cutting-edge technology, advanced features, and Hyundai’s signature electric performance. The Ioniq 9 will be revealed for the first time at the LA Auto Show from November 22 to December 1.

    The Hyundai Ioniq 9 has a 110.3kWh battery that offers up to 620 km of projected WLTP range in the Long-Range RWD version with 19-inch wheels. Based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, it supports 800V and 400V charging and takes 24 minutes to reach 10-80% with a 350kW charger. It also has a vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature to power other devices.

    The Ioniq 9 offers Performance and Long-Range (RWD/AWD) trims, with the LR AWD adding a 95hp front motor and LR RWD generating 218hp. With dual motors, the Performance trim produces around 436hp, taking 5.2 seconds to achieve 0-100kph. It has a top speed of 200kph.

    The Ioniq 9 measures 1,790 mm in height, 1,980 mm in width, and 5,060 mm in length with a 3,130 mm wheelbase. It has a 0.259 Cd drag coefficient which is a bit better than the Mercedes EQS SUV.

    In terms of exterior design, it features an upright tailgate, a rounded front, and Parametric Pixel LED headlights. It is offered with standard 19-inch wheels, with 21 and 20-inch options, and offers seven interior finishes and 16 exterior colours.

    The Ioniq 9 features wind stability control, dynamic torque vectoring, and Terrain Traction Control with Auto Terrain Mode that easily adapts depending on the road conditions. For 50:50 torque distribution, it has a trailer mode and can tow up to 2,500kg.

    The Ioniq 9 offers seven and six-seat configurations with up to 2,050 mm of legroom and 1,899 mm of headroom in the third and second rows. The first two rows come with a massage function, and when stationary the swivelling seats in the second row allow passengers to face the third row. Up to 18.2 litres of storage is provided by the adjustable "Universal Island 2.0" console.

    The Ioniq 9 offers up to 620 litres of boot space, which can be expanded to 1,323 litres by folding down the third row. The RWD model comes with an 88-litre frunk, while a 52-litre is offered by the AWD.

    The EV features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, multi-zone climate control, a 14-speaker Bose sound system, ambient lighting, 10 airbags, and advanced driver-assistance systems.

    The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is expected to launch in the United States and Korea in the first half of 2025, with plans to expand to European and other global markets later.
