Ferrari will debut a V8 hybrid supercar later this year
AUB DHABI: According to the Ferrari CEO, Louis Camilleri, the company is all set to introduce a new supercar this year. This will not be a limited-edition model but a fully-fledged production version with a normal lifecycle.
A source familiar with the project said that the new model will be a hybrid. It will have a V8 engine along with an electric motor. Sadly, this car will not make it to the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. It will be revealed later this year at another special event. The CTO of Ferrari, Michael Leiters, says that this car will take the top spot in the company’s sports car range. It will also develop more power than the 488 Pista, and customer deliveries will begin early next year.
Since hybrids seem to be all the rage, Ferrari is aiming to have 60% of its products with a hybrid option by 2022. The CEO goes on to say that a full-electric car will be launched after 2022, while the Purosangue SUV has received a very positive response. With these new launches, the outlook for 2019 seems to be positive for Ferrari. The first shipment of the ‘’highly profitable’’ Monza SP1 and SP2 supercars will make their way to customers in the 4th quarter of this year.
Going back to 2018, Ferrari sold a total of 9,251 vehicles. In 2019 it could cross the 10,000 mark. Looking ahead into the future, the CEO says that the company will focus on revenues and margins rather than higher volumes.
