Dubai World Congress for accelerating autonomous driving adoption
ABU DHABI: Dubai aims at realizing the vision of Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and honourable Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, by becoming the world leader in autonomous transport and self-driving technology. With an aim to make 25 per cent of all road transport driverless by 2030, a four-day event, Dubai World Congress, has been hosted from 15-18 Oct 2019.
The one-of-its-kind event aimed at inviting experts from the field of autonomous driving technology from all over the world to discuss, initiate and accelerate self-driving transport adoption globally. The theme of the event is “Accelerating innovation, transforming mobility” and it focuses on five key areas, including user-focused topics, enabling connectivity, virtual testing and models, trials and testbed and policy and legislation.
The event saw the participation of technology companies, OEMs and various mobility service providers. Senior executives from companies like Aurora Innovation, Uber, Foundation Autonomous, and Joby Aviation also attended the event. Additionally, visitors were given a taste of modern technology and it will bring innovation in the Emirates in the next five years.
The event is said to have more than 500 global conference attendees who’d shared their knowledge and expertise on self-driving technology. The event saw participants coming from different verticals and professions, including project managers, technical consultants, business analysts, technology service providers, R&D organizations, technical institutions and universities, regulatory bodies of emergency/crisis management and government officials.
A special World Challenge was to be hosted by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to tackle global challenges faced in the field of self-driving technology. This challenge invited participation from academia, start-ups and other industry giants with an objective to showcase their progress and advancements to global investors and partners. The Challenge was designed to take Dubai’s vision of self-driving transport to a new level with research, smart practices and mobility expertise. The derived points and knowledge from different sources could be used to enhance smart transportation in Dubai and other global cities as well.
