Audi set to ditch four-ring logo in China

ABU DHABI: Audi’s upcoming electric vehicle lineup, set to be manufactured for the Chinese market, will not carry the iconic four-ring logo that represents the brand, according to Reuters.

Audi will ditch its traditional four-ring logo on nine new electric models manufactured specifically for China. The decision, influenced by the partnership with SAIC Motor and brand image, hasn't yet been confirmed by Volkswagen Group or Audi. This news follows the global reveal of the all-electric Audi A6 e-tron.

Audi's decision to drop its logo from a new series of electric vehicles for China is surprising, considering the past controversies over logo amendments. Fans of Audi have reacted strongly to previous tweaks, and this amendment could lead to even more criticism.

Audi's iconic rings represent the 1932 merger of Wanderer, Horch, Audi, and DKW into Auto Union.

The new electric vehicle project codenamed 'Purple' aims to come up with nine electric vehicles by 2030 as a part of the collaboration between SAIC and Audi. All these new EVs will feature a new platform with batteries from CATL, motors from IM Motor, and driver-assist technology from Momenta.

Porsche and Audi revised their electric vehicle goals in July 2025, acknowledging a longer transition period. By 2033, Audi aims to target a fully electric lineup, with the introduction of hybrids that will bridge the gap. The Audi A5 will be the final petrol-only model before the company transitions to electric.
