All-new McLaren 600LT to debut at 2018 Goodwood Festival
ABU DHABI: Meet the all-new McLaren 600LT, the purest car in the history of modern motorsport, with the fourth long tail in two decades. By following the footsteps of the most iconic F1 Longtail and 657LT, the 600LT is set to make its dynamic debut at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
After the mindblowing appearance of the 789 hp McLaren Senna, the manufacturers have worked on the car by souping-up the spanner and stripping-out sockets. As a result, the 600LT now has 30 bhp extra lighter body panels, more aerodynamic design, and is new longtail of McLaren. The 600LT is the most track-prepped low weight car which is nearly 100 kgs lighter than the 570 S Coupe. The 600LT has been sculpted and refined with carbon fibre.
In comparison to the 570 S model, the 600LT gets lengthened by 74 mm with the addition of new side sill, front splitter, extended diffuser, and fixed rear wing. The 600LT features the lightweight wheels wrapped in track-spec Pirelli tires and mirror caps that are made with carbon-fiber. Surrounded by the redesigned element, the centre section features the vertical wings towards the front wheels. The trunk lid, nose, and the headlights remain unchanged; whereas the fender now features a small outlet towards the door.
Whatever the driving mode a driver is using, the wings in 600LT stays firmly fixed as there are no party tricks like the airbrake or slippery DRS. To make the room for a more effective diffuser, the exhaust pipes in McLaren 600LT is shifted to the engine deck. The 600LT gains some more downforce by channelling the superheated gases over the rear wing. The matte section (a heat resistant area) is also present as required by the new top-exit exhausts.
On a mechanical front, the 3.8-litre bi-turbo V8 engine develops an extra 20 Nm of torque. By the shortcutted exhaust’s reduced back pressure, the 620 Nm of peak torque arrives at the rear wheels stickier tires via the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The top speed of the McLaren 600LT model is yet to be revealed.
It’s surely going to be much speedier than any other McLaren model thanks to the miniaturised exhaust, carbon fibre surfboard, and racier suspension features. The faster, lighter, and louder 600LT is actually a Sports series with 23% new parts.
