Abu Dhabi Police takes to social media to warn motorists for driving with expired tires
ABU DHABI: The local authorities have posted an update on their social media channels warning motorists on the dangers of using expired or old tires. If a motorist is caught using one, he or she will have to pay a fine of AED 500. Furthermore, the police will seize the vehicle for a week along with giving four black points to the owner of the car.
One should not use a tire after a specified date, similar to all the other consumable goods. Driving a car or bike with expired tires can lead to fatal results. However, awareness of it is quite low in the country. Until June 2019, random tire bursts have cost two lives while seven people suffered from moderate injuries in seven traffic accidents. In addition to that, four people have suffered minor injuries as well. Within that same period, i.e., from January to June, more than 5,000 vehicles have been confiscated or fined for driving with expired or worn-out tires.
Abu Dhabi Police have stated, “Any damages or cracks can lead to serious traffic accidents, and may result in severe injuries and even death.” They also went on to explain the risk factors of using damaged tires, especially in summer since the temperature rises close to 50 degrees in the country. Therefore, motorists should check their tires thoroughly in regular intervals along with the air pressure. The police are providing inspections free of charge until July 16th, 2019, in case anyone is unsure about the state of their vehicle’s tires. It is a part of a safety campaign run by them. The campaign aims to lower the number of traffic-related accidents in the month of summer. The police have partnered with Al Masood Tyres for this campaign.
